During 2017 bargaining improvements were made in the overtime language for Premise Technicians (Appendix C Article 5.03). Personal Days and Floating Holidays are now included in the calculation of hours counted towards weekly overtime. The language took effect on June 25, 2017 but the company’s payroll systems were not updated to include this provision. We are happy to announce the issue has been resolved. Premise Technicians who were affected will be receiving a retroactive overtime pay correction on either their February 16th or February 23rd check, depending on their pay cycle.
We are pleased to announce that AT&T will not be moving forward with their contemplated Premise Technician force reduction. On February 2, 2018, AT&T notified IBEW Local Union 21 they were contemplating a Premise Technician Layoff. Since then there have been multiple conversations between AT&T’s Labor Relations Department and representatives from IBEW 21. The contemplated layoff of IBEW 21 Premise Technicians has been STOPPED!
AT&T notified IBEW 21 they are contemplating a Premise Technician Layoff. A layoff has not been announced. We received this notification because of the letter that was negotiated during 2017 Bargaining stating in part
...that should the Company contemplate the layoff of Premises Technicians, they will continue to discuss whether some stand-alone DirecTV video work being performed by contractors in IBEW Local 21’s jurisdiction should be assigned to Appendix C. The Company will give the Union at least two weeks’ advance notice prior to the first such layoff announcement...
Over the next 2 weeks discussions will take place to determine if the Company will reduce the number of contractors performing DirecTV work and if that reduction will eliminate or reduce the number of Prem Techs in AT&T’s contemplated layoff.

Shortly after the passage of the bill that provides massive tax cuts for corporations in the United States, AT&T announced its plans to distribute bonuses to its employees. On the surface that is great news for employees whose careers will continue with AT&T throughout 2018. Many are appreciative, as they should be.

The Officers and Staff of IBEW Local Union 21 are extremely frustrated and downright pissed off with the lack of respect, responsibility and social concern regarding the way AT&T management handles surplus situations. Departmental level vice presidents down to local first-line managers have been prematurely releasing information regarding surpluses.
