DirectSat Workers Need Your Support

Workers at DirectSat in Mokena need your support.  Local 21 has been assisting 50 DIRECTV installers at DirectSat who want to join our Union.

They contacted us in July and since then we’ve been meeting with them, hand billing their work location, sending letters to their homes, and doing whatever we could to educate them on the benefits becoming union members.

Since they found out their technicians were organizing, management as expected immediately hired a union busting attorney who has been spreading half-truths and plain old lies about unions. They even fired one of the main supporters.  It’s been a long and hard fought battle.  These workers are standing strong but they need your support.

In the past week, the DirectSat has begun to pull out all the stops to convince them they don’t need a union.  Their union election will be held next Wednesday January 29th from 7-9 am.  We need you to show these courageous workers that no matter where we work IBEW members look out and support one another. If you attack one of our members you attack us all.

We know it’s a work day but we are asking you to please join us next Wednesday January 29th to support these workers as they vote to join our ranks.  If you can stop by before work or take the day off it will make a huge difference to these workers.  We’d like them to have a warm welcome from as many people as possible as they come in to vote.

We plan to line the street with supporters starting at 6:30 am.  The election will take place at the DirectSat office located at 9951 W 190th Street in Mokena (about 1 mile west of 191st & LaGrange Road) from 7 to 9am.  The ballots will be counted immediately after the election, so we will likely know the outcome by 9:30am.

Please come out and show your support, we’d love to see you out there cheering these workers to victory.
