Apr 27, 2011 - More AT&T Jobs Saved-Safety-Weekend Scheduling
Apr 27, 2011

April 27, 2011

The ten telecommunication specialists at 10 S Canal who were to be surplused have been placed and will not be forced off the AT&T payroll.

In Springfield, the senior plant assigners and administrative specialist who were declared surplus are scheduled to be off the payroll at the end of May; however, our Union is still working to save those jobs.  We will provide updates on those talks as they progress.

A general SIPP was offered in broadcast services in Chicago. The work performed by the Customer Service Technicians in broadcast services is moving back to I&M.  The six CST’s performing the work will move with the work and will remain in their current report locations.

Our Union was officially notified that I&M and C&E are looking at implementing a force adjustment starting with a preference to move technicians around.  Our Union representatives requested all of the necessary documentation to review location headcounts.  Questions have already arisen regarding some of the documentation they received. We must stress that these discussions are in the early stages.  This is NOT a surplus it is a readjustment of headcount in work locations.  Meetings with AT&T management will take place to fully understand their plans.

The Union safety committee met with the new I&M General Manager to get his buy in on the safety plan put into place last year.  He agreed to keep the plan in place.  There were discussions on how to improve the plan which would include management training, hands on training for technicians and regular meetings between company directors and our Union’s safety committee.  Talks on a new plan will take place in May.

A committee consisting of five stewards and Business representatives Steve Unterfranz and Terry Sheehan already met once with the company on scheduling.  The company is talking about a scheduling trial using new data.  Once management provides the data it will be reviewed by the committee.  They will then meet with the company to discuss the process to see if it could be implemented everywhere.

Talks have taken place with AT&T labor relations over the one day suspensions members in C&E received for leaving truck bins unlocked while they were parked in company garages.  These talks are ongoing.
