IBEW Local Union 21 News

Our IBEW 21 Brothers working in the AT&T Cottage Grove Garage need your help feeding families in the communities where they live and work.  They organized a food drive to purchase complete Thanksgiving Dinners for over 200 families in need. Each dinner costs $25.

VOTE! There is still time, if you haven’t done so already when you get home from work please VOTE! There are many tight races where your vote can make a difference.  You have a voice make it heard. Voting options can be found here.

Don’t forget to vote on Election Day. Union meetings start on Thursday, November 8th. If you are an AT&T member don’t forget you must complete your benefits open enrollment by November 16th. We are looking for volunteers to help us at My Joyful Heart on Saturday, November 17th. The IBEW 21 Days of Giving Toy & Coat Drive will run from November 18- December 8th. Don’t forget to change your clocks this weekend.

It is getting down to crunch time and we need every IBEW 21 member to do their part by voting and volunteering to help elect the candidates that will support members of IBEW Local 21.  Some may think this election will not affect our membership.  That is not true. All members are affected by decisions made at all levels of governments through laws, regulations, judicial decisions and appointments. This election effects both our private and public sector members. We have members in the public sector who are employed at the City of Chicago and Lake County Indiana 911 Centers, and who work in Vermilion and Peoria counties. They need all IBEW 21 members to protect their rights which are under attack. IBEW 21 union members and their families have the power to make change. Please consider the endorsed candidates.

As Frontline is running off of the press you can read your copy today. The cover story is about our City of Chicago 911 OEMC members and their fight for a new contract. Read President Business Manager Paul Wright’s article about the importance of voting, find out how you can help Jacquie Fields build our EWMC and Women’s groups, learn your rights, discover what is happening at our employers across our local and there is also important information about AT&T benefits open enrollment.

The AT&T Annual Benefits Open Enrollment period will begin on October 1st at 7 a.m. and continue through November 16th at 7 p.m. Unlike previous years in which the company had “waves” of 2-week enrollment periods for different groups of employees and retirees; this year all employees and retirees will have 7 weeks to complete their enrollment, simultaneously. Enrollment can be completed online (att.com/benefitscenter), by phone (1-877-722-0020) or from your mobile device.

The Officers, Executive Board and Staff of IBEW Local 21 would like to wish all of our members a Happy and Safe Labor Day. Working people are the backbone of our nation and need to be recognized as such, both in word and deed. Too often, those working every day for a better life are forced to take a back seat to corporate interests which care only about their own bottom line. As we celebrate Labor Day let us remember the Labor movement has fought to gain benefits many workers enjoy today.

Our Brother Chief Steward Mike Andel will be receiving the BrainUp Bravery Award at their 5K Run/Walk.  It is often said patients fight a battle with cancer.  In Mike’s case, cancer is waging a war to defeat our Brother who is refusing to back down. While undergoing treatments since last year Mike has shown incredible courage and commitment to his family and the Sisters and Brothers of IBEW Local Union 21 who he represents. He is an incredible father, husband and Union representative. While many have been assisting our Brother in his recovery, Mike is helping others defeat cancer by joining with BrainUp in their fight to find a cure. His commitment to others is unwavering.

We just received the tickets for our first IBEW 21 Sox ticket order and will be sending them out next week.  If you haven’t ordered your tickets for the Chicago White Sox Union Day game on Sunday, September 9th you need to get your orders in ASAP but no later than Friday, August 24th. If you don’t order them soon you may not get your tickets in time.

The membership of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 21 (IBEW 21), working at CBRE voted overwhelmingly to accept the tentative four year agreement that was reached on July 13, 2018. For more information contact IBEW 21 Business Representative Mike Grindle.
